TELSTRA has signed AGL Energy on a five $62.5 million five year contract to manage its new IP data network.

The new Wide Area Network (WAN) will replace AGL's three current data networks and increase capacity between AGL's 12 main sites by four to 10 times to simultaneously support data, voice and video conferencing communications, including new Polycom HD video conferencing equipment.

According to Telstra, the fully managed service will benefit Telstra Managed Network Security by allowing it to proactively identify and manage existing and new security threats before they enter the AGL network.

"Central to the service is enhanced network security to help AGL remain ahead of the game in meeting our security commitments that are becoming increasingly important as more customers manage their services online," AGL chief information officer Owen Coppage says.

Other features of the new IP data network include increased call centre capacity, upgraded vide-conference equipment, and mobile voice and data services across AGL’s workforce.
