Obama announces Cybersecurity strategy

AMERICAN president Barack Obama has promised a strong emphasis on protecting and improving the nation’s cyber-infrastructure.

The security promise includes the appointment of a "cybersecurity czar" to oversee and coordinate strategies, and increased funding for security and education in both the public and private sector.

Obama claimed better defences against hackers, data thieves, and foreign cyber attacks as both a political and economic imperative.

The President said America’s pursuit of cyber security would not include monitoring private sector networks or Internet traffic.

In addition to appointing a cybersecurity policy official, The Cybersecurity plan will include preparing a cybersecurity incident response plan, designating a privacy and civil liberties official to the NSC cybersecurity directorate and initiating a national public awareness and education campaign to promote cybersecurity.
