Mac OS X 10.5.8 brings improved security

APPLE has released the10.5.8 version of Mac OS X, which according to the company is more reliable and secure than its previous version with 18 security patches.

The company announced six of the security patches provide protection against malicious image files.

Also, the handling of Canon RAW and OpenEXR files is changed, and there is also improved checking of EXIF metadata and embedded ColorSync profiles, Apple said.

Highlights also include Safari 4.0.2 with improved history search, as well as reliability improvements to Bluetooth, iCal with MobileMe Sync and CalDav, iDisk and MobileMe, AirPort networks, Sync Service, AFP, and the import of large photo and movie files form digital cameras.

According to Apple, 10.5.8 also provides additional RAW image support and improved compatibility with certain external USB hard drives.
