Australia enters bio-database sharing to prevent ID fraud

AUSTRALIA, New Zealand, Canada and the UK have commenced a shared database of fingerprints of unknown criminals.

The database was launched in order to crack down ID theft across borders.

Senator Chris Evans, the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, said the cross national biometric data-sharing agreement would "greatly improve" Australia's ability to detect identity fraud.

Evans said the Australian Government's ability to detect and immigration and identity fraud will be greatly improved as a result of the partnership in Canada and the United Kingdom.
