$2m security centre, 335 new cameras to monitor ports across Tasmania

A NEWLY opened $2 million security centre in Hobart will beef up security for Tasmanian ports.

The centre has 335 CCTV cameras installed in ports across the state monitor to activity 24 hours a day.

The investment was required under new Commonwealth security and safety standards in response to international terrorist threats.

The Tasmanian Government says the centre is leading the nation in port security.

Tasports is working with Tasmania Police to watch the Hobart waterfront at night, providing security camera vision.
